Legal Advisor role of our law firm in Italy (Milan, Bologna, Padova) in the typical transaction is as follows. Copyright law is based upon legal rights granted by the most of the industrialized countries to promote the progress of science and useful art, by protecting authors and inventors exclusive rights to their respective creations and discoveries for a limited period of time.  Almost all forms of intellectual expressions fixed in a tangible medium, original, and are minimally creative, will be subject to copyright protection.  By utilizing copyright law, a creator or inventor will be granted a valuable legal right to use, protect, and license their creation. Licensing law allows third parties to use the Intellectual Property owned by an owner of the Intellectual Property.  Through licensing agreements an owner or "licensor" maintains ownership of the Intellectual Property and a third party or "licensee" obtains rights to use or benefit from the information or Intellectual Property.  Licenses can contain a wide range of terms and conditions and last for any duration.  Licensing agreements usually specify a payment or "royalty rate" based on the type of rights granted to the licensee.  Licensing law allows for an owner of Intellectual Property to benefit from such ownership by entering into many different types of agreements with third parties.
